What is Fat Freezing or Coolsculpting?
Coolsculpting is an FDA approved fat freezing treatment that is proven to reduce stubborn fat cells by up to 30%. It is the most popular form of cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis refers to the process of where fat cells are cooled, frozen, destroyed and killed).

Coolsculpting’s discovery was that at certain temperatures your fatty tissue undergoes cell death known as apoptosis. Your body then produces a local inflammatory response resulting in a reduction of the fatty tissue layer over months.

With over 7 million treatments performed worldwide, Coolsculpting has established itself as a proven, effective, safer, and cheaper alternative than liposuction.
Because this is a non-invasive procedure the risks are very low. Contour irregularities can occur the same way they might in liposuction.
The Fat Freezing machine leaves less room for human error in terms of fat removal unlike liposuction which is heavily dependent on the skill of the surgeon. Wounds will not occur, and swelling is minimal.
Is Fat Freezing safe?
Is Fat Freezing permanent?
Once the treated fat cells are frozen (crystallised), they are destroyed and are processed naturally by the body before being eliminated when nature calls!

You will be asked to drink more water than normal to help your body flushing out the fat. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good!

Always be sure to schedule a follow-up assessment with your Coolsculpting practitioner to review your results and ask any follow up questions you may have.
Can I have Fat Freezing?
The Coolsculpting fat-reduction procedure is specially designed for you if you have unwanted fat in specific areas like the waist, arms, thighs or chin.

Unlike weight-loss surgery (e.g. gastric bypass), Coolsculpting is not a weight-loss solution for obese people.

What happens on the day of treatment?
You will be welcomed into the Fat Freezing suite at our clinic where you receive the treatment. After you and your practitioner select the area(s) to be treated they are marked out and a gel pad and applicator are applied to the targeted area. All applicators deliver controlled cooling to the targeted fat. You are free to use your mobile phone, laptop or tablet as this does not interfere with equipment.

How is it different from liposuction?
Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes fat from the body in an attempt to change its shape. Unlike Fat Freezing which is non-invasive liposuction is invasive and serious complications include deep vein thrombosis, organ perforation, bleeding, and infection can occur.
With Fat Freezing there is no need for anesthesia whereas with Liposuction the procedure may be performed under general, regional, or local anesthesia.
Liposuction involves using a cannula and negative pressure to suck out fat whereas Fat Freezing involves placing a cooling pad on the surface of the skin.
With Liposuction, you will need a few days to recover and may need someone with you during the procedure to help you afterwards as you may awaken feeling dizzy and discombobulated. With Fat Freezing you can attend sessions by yourself and resume normal life immediately afterwards.

Does it hurt?
As the name suggests Fat Freezing can be a little chilly!. Controlled cooling is delivered via an applicator to freeze the targeted fat. In the beginning you may feel intense cold, this feeling usually reduces as the area numbs. Because most applicators use a vacuum to suck fatty tissue into the applicator cup, you may also feel some pulling, tugging, and/or mild pinching.
During the treatment you may experience pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping sensations at the treatment spot. These sensations should reduce as the area becomes numb.
After treatment typical side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can last for up to several weeks. There may also be a sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after chin Fat Freezing treatment. Don’t worry these effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks.
Though rare, some additional side effects such as paradoxical hyperplasia, late onset pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms, subcutaneous induration, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur.
Fat Freezing is not for everyone. You should not have the Fat Freezing if you suffer from cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. Fat Freezing is not a treatment for obesity.
As with any medical procedure, ask your Doctor if Fat Freezing is right for you.
